Two MGL Ordinations Print E-mail
Canberra’s Missionaries of God’s Love now have 12 priests following the ordination of Brian Steele and Chris Ryan in St Christopher’s Cathedral.

In a cathedral packed to overflowing with an exuberant congregation, Archbishop Francis Carroll ordained the two men late 2002.

Fr Steele has returned to Page parish where he had spent time working as a deacon. Fr Ryan is continuing to work in the Narrabundah parish and will also act as chaplain to St Edmund’s College.

Fr Steele, 31, was working in a supermarket in his birthplace of Albury when he received a call to priesthood. MGL moderator Fr Ken Barker remembers that he “arrived on our doorstep and never left”.

Fr Steele’s critically ill father Bill travelled from West Australia for the ordination . His sister Donna also attended.

Fr Ryan is an old boy of Marist College Canberra. He began law studies at ANU before joining the MGLs. His parents John and Jean, sister Kate and her husband Adam and their newly born twins attended the ordination. A large number of priests of the Archdiocese took part in the ordination.
